Who Is The Average Coupon User?

Have you ever wondered who the average coupon user is? Although we almost all use coupons, there are still a lot of stereotypes about who the average person is that regularly makes use of coupons. We most often stereotype this person as a low-income female. Is this true?

It is true that the average person who regularly uses coupons is more likely to be female than male (although lots of guys obviously use coupons, too!)

It is not true, however, that she is a low-income individual. The average coupon user tends to be a woman who earns between $50,000 and $75,000 per year. This puts her squarely in the middle class and doing not so bad for herself financially.

So what else can we generally say about these women? They are pet owners (considering that one of the top five coupon types used is for pet food). They are also concerned about health and hygiene (another three of the top five are oral hygiene products, household cleaners and vitamins). And they are good about eating their breakfast since breakfast foods are also on that top five coupon use list.

So if you’re a middle class woman with a pet who cares about her health and hygiene then you are the average coupon user! But of course, we have to take these stereotypes with a grain of salt since more than 90% of Americans are now using coupons, which suggests that there really is no average coupon user at all.
