Extreme Couponing Captures America’s Attention

When TLC debuted its new reality television show “Extreme Couponing” Americans tuned in. The title of the show quickly became a trending topic on Twitter as people around the nation put in their two cents as to whether or not the show provided a good look at the use of coupons for saving money. The verdict was mixed. Many people felt inspired by the extreme money-saving efforts of the coupon clippers depicted in the show. However, others felt defeated by the fact that they could never live up to the bar set by these coupon experts. What’s important is to look to shows like this for tips and ideas and not to expect to actually live at the extreme end of the spectrum like these people do.

So what is “Extreme Couponing”? The show follows several people as they take trips to the store to show off their coupon savings. The experiences chronicled in the show reflect some of the amazing money-saving stories that we hear about when the news media reports on coupon clippers. For example, it shows shoppers buying in bulk and using coupons to get $250 worth of items for only $6. Wouldn’t we all love to do that?

The truth of the matter is that most of us will never be the type of on-TV extreme coupon experts that a show like this depicts. But the show may manage to keep the attention of frugal-minded Americans for some time to come. That’s because we can all use more tips about how to utilize coupons to save money in our every day lives. And of course we enjoy seeing the drama of people who are doing it at such an extreme level! If we keep in mind that the tips are just guidelines for saving money and that we can also save in other ways (such as using coupon codes) then we can benefit from shows like this while enjoying some lighthearted entertainment.
